Personal:

My name is Vinh Nguyen. I'm 28 years old, former Marine...

Started running when I joined the military in 1999. I did not enjoy running until 2006-7 when I started training for my first marathon. In the Marines, we ran an average of 3-5 miles. I never ran any distances longer than that until I started training for the Myrtle Beach Marathon in 2007.

Currently working as a government contractor (electronics technician).

I finished my Associates of Science in August and have finally been able to train hard full time. I decided to take time of school to see how much of a difference it will make and maybe hopefully achieve my goal and qualify for Boston.

6 mile run @ 8:16 pace

On mile 3 I decided to run at a pace I could possibly keep on Saturday's race, the split turned out to be 7:14. I think that is a bit too fast. I was thinking of staying around 7:30 as long as I can and push it the last 4 miles or so. We'll see, all of this will probably go out the window after mile 1 haha.

Never underestimate race day magic! You've trained hard and certainly has the ability to hit that pace. Just go for it!!! I assume it's a flat course! Here's to a negative splits with a strong finish to a PR on Sat. Best of luck!!!!

I agree with Smooth, race day adrenaline it is amazing and you have trained hard....... the usual race blips the days before hand, think positive, maybe go out for the 1st few mile's at your pace 7.30 then try and pick up from say mile 7 to the end I think you will find you can hit 7.15mins and a pr is in your sights, be positive :-)

and huge best of luck tooo :)

Thanks Sam and Smooth for the encouragement and advice. I will be positive and race well. It is a flat course so that is a plus. I think I will follow your advice Sam, I'll keep it at 7:30 until I think I can push it hard to the finish. As long as I hit sub 1:40 I'll be happy.

Lyman - Thanks! It looks like it's gonna rain again, but I'm ready for it. I say bring it on haha!

Adam - Thanks! How come you aren't racing? I'll probably be wearing my singlet that you see in my pic and an under armour headband as always. I like your blog title, Boston 2011. That's the year I plan to qualify for Boston. This year is all prep.
