Personal:

My name is Vinh Nguyen. I'm 28 years old, former Marine...

Started running when I joined the military in 1999. I did not enjoy running until 2006-7 when I started training for my first marathon. In the Marines, we ran an average of 3-5 miles. I never ran any distances longer than that until I started training for the Myrtle Beach Marathon in 2007.

Currently working as a government contractor (electronics technician).

I finished my Associates of Science in August and have finally been able to train hard full time. I decided to take time of school to see how much of a difference it will make and maybe hopefully achieve my goal and qualify for Boston.

Easy 9 @ 8:18 pace. Was lazy and started my run late in the day =( Planning on some intervals, leg workout, short tempo, inclines this week. Try to squeeze a longer run in as well.

I slept in till 10a.m. and wore pj's till...3p.m. then finally showered. IT's ok to have an alternative type schedule on the weekend. Makes The weekly grind more grindable..lol. Vinh, you need :) :D =D =)all over your blog today because you DESERVE to have a lazy moment/day after your hard week! Besides 9 @ 8:18 pace makes up for any slacking. :P

Sounds like a good running week. I am glad you were able to be lazy a bit and still get a good run in. It is nice to have some lazy days to recuperate.

Missy! I try to never be lazy b/c if I do...I just might stop running lol. J/K This week is gonna be rough. Speed intervals today and I'm going to do legs right after. My motivation has dropped a bit after the canceled marathon. I need to punish myself for it this week =P

Thanks Mark! We'll see how it goes. The speed training is kickin my butt.

Michelle, I try to only take 1 day of not working out a week. I guess I can try to be lazy sometimes. I need to bring up the intensity on my work outs though.

Thanks Sam! Let's hope I don't injure myself. My mileage has been slacking lately. I wanna bring it up but I feel like I'll get injured if I bring it above 50.

Burt - lol, I need to make 7:30-8:15 an easy pace if I ever wanna qualify for Boston. I'll get there eventually.

Hey upping the mileage Vinh is a risky business, rule of thumb 10% each week of your mileage i.e your doing 40 miles then the next week do 44 2nd week 48.5 then 3rd week 53/54 and then the 4th week is back down to 40 miles, the 5th week back up to the 3rd weeks mileage !

or you can up the mileage quicker if you drop the sessions just plain old base mileage again still you need to be slightly careful! your going for 10ks, so I would stick with 50 miles is a good round figure for a 10k training plan, and work on the sessions just my thoughts though I am sure elite 10kers do allot more ?? Happy days Sam :)

Vinh..I understand completely...I can be all or nothing about so many things..haha....I don't think you need to be punished either...You need a night out with buddies!
