Personal:

My name is Vinh Nguyen. I'm 28 years old, former Marine...

Started running when I joined the military in 1999. I did not enjoy running until 2006-7 when I started training for my first marathon. In the Marines, we ran an average of 3-5 miles. I never ran any distances longer than that until I started training for the Myrtle Beach Marathon in 2007.

Currently working as a government contractor (electronics technician).

I finished my Associates of Science in August and have finally been able to train hard full time. I decided to take time of school to see how much of a difference it will make and maybe hopefully achieve my goal and qualify for Boston.

Nailed the workout I had planned except I took 2 min to get some water and stretch my left calf after the first set of intervals.

2 mile warm up

.25 miles at 7.0 (8:34 pace) followed by .75 miles @ 10 mph (6:00 pace) x 3

Hit 3 miles in 19:54 (6:38 pace)

2 min rest/water/stretch

.5 mile recovery jog

.25 miles @ 10.2 mph (5:52 pace) followed by .25 mile at 6.7 mph (8:57 pace) x 4

.5 mile cool down

Good luck on the intervals! It sounds intense.

Hah - my treadmill doesn't even go that fast! It stops at 10mph, but it was only $400 so I guess that's what I get. Good luck, I think you can do it.

I know you can do it, and it does sound rough!!! Your recovery is fast!

GOOD LUCK!

From Kelli on Tue, Mar 09, 2010 at 17:51:51 from 71.219.89.82

YEAH, you did it! Ouch, you are super cool, OUCH, OUCH, OUCH! I am so impressed with those speeds. Should be the fastest 5k ever.

Way to go Vinh. Sounds like a great workout!

From SlowJoe on Tue, Mar 09, 2010 at 18:10:03 from 71.21.119.111

Oh wow, if you can do that on a treadmill (which is harder than the road in my opinion) then you should be golden on Saturday! Nice job.

From Smooth on Tue, Mar 09, 2010 at 18:32:26 from 174.23.198.220

WOW, TOUGH speed workout. You nailed it! VERY NICELY done!!! GOOD LUCK on Sat. :)

Tough workout and very fast. Way to hit those 6 min pace intervals.

From vinh on Wed, Mar 10, 2010 at 07:03:04 from 75.77.22.187

Kelli - You are the cool one =P Thanks!

Cal - Thanks! Yea it was rough, but the 1/4 mile intervals weren't as bad as I thought. I think I can push it to 10.5 mph or faster for those.

Joe - Thanks! I guess we will see on Saturday. I would like to be my last 5k time by a minute but it'll be tough.

Smooth - Thanks! =) I can't wait for Saturday!

Lyman - Thanks! Can't believe you are in Italy? Wish I was there.

How are the legs today? Tired at all from that SPEED????

From vinh on Thu, Mar 11, 2010 at 06:47:59 from 75.77.22.187

Kelli - Legs felt good actually but I decided to rest so I can taper a bit. Planning on running an easy 7-8 miles tonight.

From Michelle on Thu, Mar 11, 2010 at 09:48:29 from 174.29.65.50

Great job nailing it! I am glad you are seeing so much success with your running.
