Personal:

My name is Vinh Nguyen. I'm 28 years old, former Marine...

Started running when I joined the military in 1999. I did not enjoy running until 2006-7 when I started training for my first marathon. In the Marines, we ran an average of 3-5 miles. I never ran any distances longer than that until I started training for the Myrtle Beach Marathon in 2007.

Currently working as a government contractor (electronics technician).

I finished my Associates of Science in August and have finally been able to train hard full time. I decided to take time of school to see how much of a difference it will make and maybe hopefully achieve my goal and qualify for Boston.

Only had time for a quick 4. Signed up with a new gym today. Mainly for convenience b/c its a 1-2 min drive from my house. It also has the only indoor pool. Bad thing is that the treadmill calibration is all jacked up. It is probably .6 - 1 mph faster than it should be. Running a 7 min pace felt like 6:10. Not sure what they can do about that.

Thanks Teena! Hopefully this new gym works out for me.

Man I have been on one of those treadmills. Those are just crazy. So can you do laps in that pool then?? Its great xtraining.

I hope you like your new gym. Being close is a definite necessity for a gym. Good luck with the treadmills, maybe they will help you be even faster.

Treadmills always feel like that to me, guess I am jacked up!

So, the question is, will you run to the gym or drive?

I've convinced myself that ours at home is off too (going faster than it displays). TMs just suck all around but I imagine they will come in handy for you in summertime in SC.

Mark - I will definitely be hitting the pool a lot starting in April. Also gonna be putting up a lot more mileage too!

Michelle - I'm pretty happy that it's really close. Not so happy about the treadmills. I don't really want to guess what pace I'm running. Especially when it's way off. But who knows, maybe it might make me faster =)

Kelli - haha, no way you are jacked up. You are hard core! The only thing that is keeping me from running to the gym is a really busy road. 4 lanes I would have to cross. There isn't really a stop light with a cross walk either.

Joe - my last gym had fairly accurate TM's. These ones are just insanely off. I usually only run on TM during inclement weather and when I wanna run on incline. Since the gym also has a pool, I want to start running and swimming right after each other (and vice versa)

My gym is .8 of a mile and I drive. Of course, i have a 5 year old in tow...
