Personal:

My name is Vinh Nguyen. I'm 28 years old, former Marine...

Started running when I joined the military in 1999. I did not enjoy running until 2006-7 when I started training for my first marathon. In the Marines, we ran an average of 3-5 miles. I never ran any distances longer than that until I started training for the Myrtle Beach Marathon in 2007.

Currently working as a government contractor (electronics technician).

I finished my Associates of Science in August and have finally been able to train hard full time. I decided to take time of school to see how much of a difference it will make and maybe hopefully achieve my goal and qualify for Boston.

So I decided to run a couple of mile sprints in with my 10 mile run to see where my speed was at. I thought I may have gotten slower since I  haven't pushed the pace in a while. The pace for most of the run was slow around 8:30-9:15 b/c those sprints killed me.

Mile 3 - 5:40 Had to walk for a couple minutes after b/c I felt my heart was going to burst. I don't think I've ever ran a sub 6 before

Mile 8 - 6:10 Slightly uphill in the wind. I wasn't pushing as hard as the first sprint. Maybe b/c I was pretty much gassed after that first one.

Overall, pretty happy with the results. I see everyone is stepping up their training lately. Now it is my turn! =)

Wow Vinh, those are some speedy miles! Awesome running.

P.S. I was sorry to hear that your Marathon was cancelled. That's really disappointing.

Calvin - Thanks! Yea, it was a real bummer about the marathon being cancelled. I was ready for it but I guess it will have to wait.

Smooth - Thanks! Haha, I love your enthusiasm! Yes, I can almost guarantee a sub 20 5k this time!

Joe - I'm hoping so. I would like to get under a 19 min 5k this year sometime. I need to get more speed work in.

Sam - lol thanks, but you hit sub 6 miles easy =P I can't believe some people run sub 4! What pace/time should I shoot for my 800's?

Vinh how cool are you!?!??! Oh, if ONLY, I am dying over here with all my Grandma runs..I want to call my coach..I feel like I am losing fitness and want to go run fast and wreckless somewhere! Take me on a run with you!!! Save me!

From vinh on Mon, Feb 22, 2010 at 12:30:49 from 75.77.22.187

Thanks Lyman, Teena! I definitely feel the pounding in my legs when I push it that hard. My knees have been hurting a lil bit lately. =(

Missy! - So when is your coach going to let you push it hard on your runs? I don't think you will lose any of your fitness. You have been swimming pretty hard core. Will your coach let you race a 5k or 10k? I'd like to see how well you do. I think you will smash your next race.
