Personal:

My name is Vinh Nguyen. I'm 28 years old, former Marine...

Started running when I joined the military in 1999. I did not enjoy running until 2006-7 when I started training for my first marathon. In the Marines, we ran an average of 3-5 miles. I never ran any distances longer than that until I started training for the Myrtle Beach Marathon in 2007.

Currently working as a government contractor (electronics technician).

I finished my Associates of Science in August and have finally been able to train hard full time. I decided to take time of school to see how much of a difference it will make and maybe hopefully achieve my goal and qualify for Boston.

I thought this one looked hilarious. It looks like I'm about to pass out!

Will be lifting weights after work for my workout today.

Vinh! You are rocking that starting line!!! Your quads eat those other guys quads for dinner. Ha ha!

Your 5k beats my 5k..My best is like....20:12. I need to do a 5k..see if I can be sub 20 like my Vinh!

They give nice medals where you are at..here they just give you a freakin piece of bread! :P Haha..well if I actually did a 5k out here maybe I would find they have nice medals..we shall see!

Lol on the last picture, I probably look like that too when at the finish line, I always look down at the mat when I step on it.

Yeah Vinh great pictures, you look like a pro on the start line and on the finnish well you look like you gave it your all for sure !

If you dont look like that at the end of a 5k you never raced it ! :-)

Vinh, nice photos, nice run.

Missy! Yay you're back! Lol, my quads aren't anything special =P I need to start getting some leg workouts into my routine tho! Missy, I think you could probably run a 5k in the sub 19 range. You are faster than me, trust me. I still have a lot of training to do to catch up!

lol Sam! No pro here! I'm a newbie just trying to be one. Can you believe a 52 yr old man won the race? Actually there was 2 (52 yr old who were in the top 3 overall) Very impressive!

Thanks Paul, Kelli!

OK, dumb question, why are there always two mats at the finish line? I'm always tempted to stop running after the first one but I keep going just in case. Terrific race, Vinh.

Nice pics, I look like that after a half-mile on every run so don't feel bad.

Nice pics...Looks like you gave it everything!!!

From vinh on Wed, Mar 17, 2010 at 07:11:44 from 75.77.22.187

Flatlander - I have absolutely no idea why there are two mats. I always just sprint to the last one just in case haha. For my next race, we are getting a B-tag, the chip stays on the bib. Weird, it'll be my first using that.

Haha, thanks Joe!

Thanks Rye! I did! A lil too much on the first mile though. I checked your blog and see that we have very similar times despite the 10k/marathon since I haven't really races those recently. My next race is a 10k but I don't think it will be a huge PR. Theres gonna be 30,000+ people plus I have to run up a huge bridge. As for the marathon, probably will do one in the fall. I'm confident I could run a sub 3:30 right now but trying to cut 20 mins off by this fall.

LOVE the pics!!! You look AWESOME!!!! Who are all the boys at the starting line? How did they do?

From missy on Wed, Mar 17, 2010 at 23:33:07 from 71.35.247.20

Well you will catch up..you are going to have a complete PR year. :D

From vinh on Thu, Mar 18, 2010 at 06:58:09 from 75.77.22.187

Thanks Teena! I'm not really sure who those little boys were. They were all were wearing jerseys so I'm guessing they were with some team representing a club/school? They were all pretty fast for their age. I got to congratulate a few of them! A lot of them placed in their age group.

Missy - you and me both! We will have a great year!

In the first picture it looks like you're thinking, "Kill me now!"

I was going to ask about the kids in the picture, too. I thought they were a family or something.
