Personal:

My name is Vinh Nguyen. I'm 28 years old, former Marine...

Started running when I joined the military in 1999. I did not enjoy running until 2006-7 when I started training for my first marathon. In the Marines, we ran an average of 3-5 miles. I never ran any distances longer than that until I started training for the Myrtle Beach Marathon in 2007.

Currently working as a government contractor (electronics technician).

I finished my Associates of Science in August and have finally been able to train hard full time. I decided to take time of school to see how much of a difference it will make and maybe hopefully achieve my goal and qualify for Boston.

Not too happy with my time but 19 min PR nonetheless. The heat didn't really bother me much today.... it was the hills/downhills! Coming from flat terrain in SC doesn't help at all. Congrats to everyone who finished the race! It was good to see Mark, Jeff, Teena, Smooth, RAD, Lyman, Tom, and a few other people I can't remember at the moment. Kelli I missed you again! I saw that you ran a killer race! I told you and Teena yall would beat me! Teena I saw your time, I'm glad you hit your goal time as well! You did awesome! Everyone did awesome except me it feels like. This is not an easy course for me. I did okay and hit the paces I was satisfied with until mile 18 on. My legs were toast by then. Oh well, back to the drawing board. Got a marathon in February to train for. It's flat and at sea level! I'll be heading back to SC on Monday so....I wish everyone the best! I won't be doing SGM next year but I might just come visit in the summer. Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Vinh~

You are amazing!! Yes, that is definitely an advantage us Utahns have ... we run hills all the time.

That is a HUGE PR!!! Congrats!!! :) :) :)

Nice PR Vinh! Considering you're not used to running hills like that and coming off an injury, you did great. You've got a way faster time in you, and your PR at Myrtle Beach in Feb. will be all the bigger now. Sounds like it was fun to meet all the bloggers too. Nice job.

Awesome job man. I will run with you anytime. Just didn't do well with you at SG. For those few moments that is. Keep your head up. You did awesome.

Vinh, it was great to run into you at the beginning - and KNOW who I was running into :) You ran a great race, a PR is a PR and I hear you on those hills. I live here with the hills and everyone says this is a downhill course, but all I kept seeing was the uphill. It was crazy. You'll do wonderful at Myrtle Beach, it is a great race - as long as it doesn't snow and get cancelled :)

I'll be out your way (well, NC) next month and I'll try out OBX - I'll let you know how us elevation and hills people like a full flat and at sea level.

Congrats again on a great PR! You really did run a great race. It was wonderful to meet you - keep up the training and enjoy going home to thick air, no hills and cool weather.

DANG IT, all those miles and we did not meet. i was there forever, but I did not even ever run in to Teena or Smooth either.

I actually kept thinking, "Where did all of these hills come from? I do not remember so many!!!"

Sorry you did not have the race you wanted, but you have had some issues!! Best of luck in your training for the next one!!!

Nice job, man. I can't imagine trying to do SGM after training on the flats at sea level!
