Personal:

My name is Vinh Nguyen. I'm 28 years old, former Marine...

Started running when I joined the military in 1999. I did not enjoy running until 2006-7 when I started training for my first marathon. In the Marines, we ran an average of 3-5 miles. I never ran any distances longer than that until I started training for the Myrtle Beach Marathon in 2007.

Currently working as a government contractor (electronics technician).

I finished my Associates of Science in August and have finally been able to train hard full time. I decided to take time of school to see how much of a difference it will make and maybe hopefully achieve my goal and qualify for Boston.

12 mile run @ 8:05 pace

Knee felt good, a lil sore afterwards but I'm icing it just in case. I hit a couple of marathon pace in the first couple of miles without knowing it so I slowed it down a bit. Decided I would run the last 3 miles at marathon pace or slightly faster. When I had 1 mile left, I decided to push it and try to beat Lyman's last work out mile =)

Mile 10 - 7:44

Mile 11 - 7:44

Mile 12 - 6:58

Oh, I was wondering if anyone has heard of the Bair Gutsman Trail Run in Utah? I think it's in August and might just run it when I come to visit this summer. I'm also thinking about running a 40 mile trail race in October. Maybe I'm getting in over my head haha.

6 mile run @ 8:16 pace

On mile 3 I decided to run at a pace I could possibly keep on Saturday's race, the split turned out to be 7:14. I think that is a bit too fast. I was thinking of staying around 7:30 as long as I can and push it the last 4 miles or so. We'll see, all of this will probably go out the window after mile 1 haha.

Huge PR today! Almost by 10 mins. And also got 1st in age group (I was shocked!)

1 Mile warm up

.25 Strides right before the start

My garmin lost the race data today so I'm kinda pissed. So my plan to run 7:30 for at least the first half and push it the last several miles went out the window lol. I ran mile 1 in like 7 flat and rest up until mile 11 were 7:15-7:25. Mile 12 and 13 were horrible, I got a cramp and it slowed me down to a lil under 8 min pace. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the result.  Achieved the sub 1:40 I was shootin for. Now I just have to prepare for the Myrtle Beach marathon next month. Here's to a sub 3:35!

Here is what I got for being first in my age group. I also got a $30 gift cert to a local sports store.
