Sorry just to warn you guys, I don't write good race reports lol. I just want to share some of the details about the race though. If you look at the past couple months of my training, you might think I was crazy to run an ultra. I know I haven't trained as hard as I should have but I just wanted to see how I would do. This was by far the most gratifying race I've ran. It took so much out of me to push through the pain and to keep ahead of everyone else. I took off in the lead and never looked back. The weather here in SC has been pretty hot and humid the past couple of months but luckily this weekend was much cooler. I believe it was only in the mid to high 80's. So the race was from 7am - 7 pm. It was based on lap completions. 1 lap = 1.03 miles. After each lap, we had to go into the gazebo where our gear was and we had to mark each mile as we ran by it. It definitely took some time off each lap but since everyone had to do it, I didn't mind. There were 15 runners total. Most of them were experienced ultra runners. One of the ladies was the course record holder. After knowing this, I didn't think I could win so my goal was just to shoot for 60 miles. I really didn't have a strategy going into the race. Once we started, I just kept going and would just figure it out from there. Here is what happened. Took the lead from the start and just took an easy pace and kept going.
Hit 26.2 miles in under 4:30 Kept going and haven't walked yet. Hit 50k in about 5:15 After I hit 50k, I started run/walk. Hit 50 miles under 10 hours Hit 60.8 miles in 11:52 2nd place ran 51.5 miles. Results link - http://www.alexruns.com/index.html
I think someone took pictures during the race. I will post them once I find them. The only picture I have right now is of my plaque. It's a lil weird but I like it. =) Thanks guys/gals for your support on FRB.
